Smallville is a coming-of-age series that handles Clark Kent's story in his pre-Superman days quite intelligently and maturely. It's a fairly long series, and one has to accept that not every episode is a jaw-dropper. There are some silly episodes with unnecessary teenage drama.
But for the most part, the series offers fantastic and enjoyable episodes with plot twists. It's fun to watch Clark discover who he really is and what he can do. Meanwhile, his personal relationships also get highlighted. Tom Welling does justice to his role as a budding superhero.
