Bar Rescue: A Reality Show about Struggling Bars - and Lots of Drama!

Is truth really stranger than fiction? Who knows! But if you watch Bar Rescue, you’ll
know that reality is definitely more dramatic than fiction. This American reality show
is about nightlife expert Jon Taffer visiting bars and giving them much-needed
makeovers.

What is Bar Rescue about?

Jon Taffer, a veteran in the field of restaurants and bars, is on a mission - to save
bars from pulling down their shutters for good! What does he do? he embarks on a
journey to inspect such bars on Bar Rescue. He puts to use his 30 years of
experience in the industry to empower bar owners!
The episodes usually begin with Taffer and his team visiting and surveying every
aspect of the bar, from decor and facilities to drinks and service. They also check the
bar’s financial records. Then, Taffer presents his plans for drastic changes - all in his
no-nonsense attitude.

Taffer helps them revamp their menu, glam up the interiors, and reinvent the
business as a hazard-free, healthy establishment. He even helps train staff
members. So Bar Rescue is all about turning failing bars into profit-making
businesses.

From adding a unique factor to every drink to managing the crowd, from playing the
right music to handling dissatisfied employees - every little aspect of running a bar
gets attention on the show. Taffer means business, and his key tool is tough love.

Is Bar Rescue a Good Show?

The show strikes a chord with viewers who love watching success stories on TV. But
where’s the drama? Granted, it doesn’t have the adventure of Naked and Afraid or
the romantic cliffhangers of Love Island. But it does have an in-your-face approach,
thanks to Taffer Dynamics!

The show uses top-notch technology and equipment and creates ambitious plans to
make each bar go through a transformative journey. But let’s not forget that this is a
reality show - and no reality show is complete without drama.

Taffer's histrionics is one of the reasons you'll love or hate the show. There's no gray
feeling for the show. He is brusque and aggressive in his attempt to be brutally
honest. But the question is, does it work - for the show or the bars?

Here’s a reality check: by the end of season 7, Bar Rescue gave makeovers to help
187 bars. Of these, 94 bars continued their business, while 83 had to pull their
shutters for good. Another 10 went up for sale. It's not too shabby.

As for the show, many people have grown to hate it, primarily because of Taffer. It’s
not just his brashness, though that’s starting to become a little too common in all
food reality shows, courtesy Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich.

Many pros complain that he gives out wrong information. His advice is often
questionable, too. The show itself has been accused of faking a lot of "reality."
Participants on the show have confirmed that the show's producers feed them lines.
But then again, that itself is the charm of this show!

Final Verdict: If you love melodramatic reality shows with success stories of
businesses and an anchor who loves to affront struggling bar owners, Bar Rescue is
a must-watch!
